Juraj Tsintula, suspected of having attempted to assassinate Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitso, was taken to a special criminal court in the city Pezinok in the western part of the republic, reported the news portal SME.
According to his information, the 71-year-old Cintula was transported under increased security measures.
Cintula said earlier that he did not regret what he had done, but claimed that he did not want to kill the prime minister, but only to harm him. The crime was committed for political reasons. The man, Slovak media reported, had earlier admitted to shooting the head of government because he did not agree with his policies. He faces up to life in prison.
Fico was prime minister of Slovakia from 2006-2010 and 2012-2018 and became head of government again in October 2023. He has long criticized Western policy in the situation in Ukraine, stressing, that the conflict has no military solution, and the supply of weapons to Kiev leads only to casualties.
