At least two people died last night in a suspected collision between a motorboat and a passenger ship in the river Danube north of Budapest, reported the world news agencies quoted by BTA.
Police and rescue teams continue to search for five people who sailed with the motorboat, Hungarian television MTV (MTV) reported today, as quoted by DPA.
Police believe the speedboat collided with the passenger ship. The authorities have stopped a ship with a damaged hull in the port of Komarom (Komarno), about 90 km from the scene of the accident, according to a television report.
The case is being investigated for endangering shipping, with multiple victims.
According to the police, there were eight adult passengers in the motorboat. An injured man managed to get ashore. The bodies of a man and a woman were found.
There are suggestions that there were Italian tourists on board the motorboat. According to a spokesman for the Hungarian capital police, the incident became known after a man with a bloody head who spoke Italian was found on the banks of the Danube, TASS notes.
