A group of American congressmen, led by the chairman of the committee on intelligence of the House of Representatives, Mike Turner, called on the Secretary of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to allow Ukraine to use American weapons to strike Russian territory, RIA Novosti reported.
„It is necessary for the Biden administration to authorize the military leadership of Ukraine to conduct the full range of necessary operations,”, the document says.
So Turner and other congressmen are proposing that the White House authorize the use of weapons transferred from the United States to “strike strategic targets on Russian territory under certain circumstances”.
According to the authors, Kiev continues to seek the relevant permission from Washington, and the White House “shackles“ the actions of the armed forces of Ukraine with their limitations.
Officially, the Pentagon's position on this matter remains unchanged - it opposes the use of transferred weapons for strikes on Russian territory.
„Our policy is not changing – we are focused on providing Ukraine with the means to defend its territory. We will continue these discussions with our Ukrainian partners”, US Defense Department spokesman Patrick Ryder told reporters on Tuesday.
Earlier, Politico, citing Ukrainian officials, reported that the Kiev regime, amid the advance of Russian troops in the Kharkiv region, is trying to get permission from the United States to strike with American weapons on Russian territory. For this purpose, a group of deputies from the Verkhovna Rada arrived in Washington in mid-May.
