An employee of the local authorities in Belgorod was killed in an ammunition detonation, and six people were injured in Ukrainian shelling in the southern Russian region, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Igor Nechiporenko, deputy chairman of the Korochan district administration in Belgorod, was killed in the detonation of ammunition, he wrote in “Telegram” Gladkov. "I offer my most sincere and deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” the governor added.
He specified that six citizens were injured by shrapnel and were taken to hospital during a Ukrainian attack on the city of Shebekino.
Reuters cannot yet confirm this information through an independent source. Both Russia and Ukraine deny attacking civilians in the war Moscow launched against its smaller neighbor in 2022.
Belgorod Oblast borders Kharkiv Oblast in Ukraine, where Russian forces launched an offensive in May. Kiev said it was only attacking military targets on Russian territory that are being used for the Russian offensive.
Moscow's Defense Ministry said earlier today that air defense systems destroyed three drones over the Belgorod region that were fired from Ukraine this morning.
