The entire Danube River in Austria is closed to shipping due to flooding caused by heavy rains in the country and in neighboring southern Germany, reports BTA, quoted by BNR.
The Danube flows more than 350 km through Austria, from the Bavarian border town of Passau to the Slovakian capital Bratislava, which is also on the border.
The closure of the river forced some cruise ships to dock in Linz, where the Danube overflowed its banks today.
Some roads were also closed.
In Scharding, which is located on the river Inn, a tributary of the Danube, defenses were built to prevent major floods.
