The former mayor of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, Gennady Matzegora, whom the Ukrainian special services accuse of state treason because of his support for Russian forces, was killed in the city of Stari Oskol, Belgorod region, a law enforcement source told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Mash Telegram channel reported that the former mayor was shot near his home in Stari Oskol and urgently hospitalized in Moscow in a serious condition.
Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office accuses Matsegora of treason for supporting Russian forces. Matsegora stated that SBU officers detained his daughter and threatened her with murder.
The Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, called this situation monstrous and called on the world public to watch the video address of the mayor of Kupyansk, in which Ukrainian nationalists beat people.
„I confirm”, the interlocutor of the agency said, answering the question of whether an attempt was made against the former mayor near his home in Stari Oskol.
