The Japanese government plans to hold an international conference on demining the territory of Ukraine next year. This is what Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa told reporters, quoted by TASS.

We have an idea to hold a demining conference in Ukraine next year,”, she noted. Kamikawa recalled that Japan has been cooperating in this area for many years with Cambodia, which has considerable experience in disposing of unexploded ordnance after many years of civil war and armed conflict.

This year's Mine Action Conference (UMAC2024) will be held in October in Switzerland.

Japan and Ukraine, on the sidelines of the G-7 (G7) summit in Italy, signed a bilateral security agreement for a period of 10 years. In addition, in 2024, Kyiv will receive $4.5 billion from Tokyo. In accordance with Japanese law and the current constitution, Japan will only be able to supply the Ukrainian side with non-lethal equipment.

Tokyo has already provided aid to Kyiv in the field of demining. Thus, Japan transferred to Ukraine four ALIS installations, which allow detecting mines with high accuracy, as well as 50 metal detectors. In addition, Ukrainian experts previously received demining training in Japan and Cambodia.
