The co-chair of the ruling German Social Democratic Party (GSDP) Zaskia Esken rejected the proposal of the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) to send unemployed Ukrainian refugees back to their homeland, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
In a comment on tomorrow's issue of the newspaper “Augsburger Allgemeine“, seen in advance by DPA, Esken contested a proposal by Alexander Dobrint, who leads the parliamentary faction of the CSU in the Bundestag.
Noting that many of the refugees are women and children, Esken highlighted the lack of childcare facilities.
„The government's task is not to implement proposals on the backs of Ukrainian refugees, but to ensure that there is a functioning social infrastructure for all people who want to live safely in our country,”, she said.

„The following should be implemented more than two years after the start of the war: find a job in Germany or return to the safer regions of Western Ukraine,” said Dobrint in today's edition of the “Bild” newspaper.

GSDP spokesperson on labor market issues, Martin Roseman, told the same publication that “obstacles for Ukrainian refugees in entering the workforce are due to the lack of childcare facilities, lack of language skills and lingering recognition of their professional qualifications“.
Germany has taken in thousands of Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war in February 2022, most of them women, children and the elderly, while Ukraine deters overage men from leaving the country.
