Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met yesterday in Rome with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, France reported press, quoted by BTA.

In his meeting with Orbán Meloni described Hungary as an "important European partner" and "a valuable ally within NATO".

Meloni, who shares Orbán's views on immigration and the European Union's agricultural policy, drew attention to the fact that Italy and Hungary have some differences in their views on the war in Ukraine. The Italian Prime Minister emphasized that Rome's support for "sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity" of Ukraine is something that is "non-negotiable".

"We know very well that our positions do not always coincide," said Meloni, whose country supplies arms to Kiev, enforces sanctions against Moscow and strongly supports the NATO position, unlike Orbán, who maintains his closeness to the Kremlin.

At the same time, Meloni said he welcomed Hungary's actions within the EU and NATO, as Budapest "allows other member countries, allies, to take very important decisions, although it does not always agree with everything" .
