95-year-old German woman known for denying the Holocaust has been sentenced to one year and four months in prison after yesterday the court in the German city of Hamburg found her guilty of incitement, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
The charges against Ursula Haverbeck stem from comments she made during the 2015 trial of former Nazi SS member Oskar Gröning, who served as a guard at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Haverbeck told reporters covering the trial that Auschwitz, where the Nazis systematically killed at least 1.1 million people, was only a labor camp, not an extermination camp.
She made similar false statements in a television interview for the regional public television En De Air, DPA points out.
The Hamburg court said today that four months of Haverbeck's sentence will now be considered to have been served due to long delays in bringing the case to court.
