Poland and the Baltic republics - Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - call in joint declaration for the European Union to build a defense line along its border with Russia and Belarus, Reuters reported. The letter, addressed to the President of the European Council, in which the joint position is stated, will be discussed at the meetings of the EU member states starting today in the Belgian capital Brussels, quoted by BTA.
The goal is to protect the EU from military threats and other malicious activities by Moscow, Reuters points out.
The leaders of the four countries state that the project to protect the twenty-seven members of the bloc, inhabited by nearly four hundred and fifty million people, will also require the financial support of all of them.
"The construction of defense infrastructure along the EU's border with Russia and Belarus will meet the glaring and urgent need to ensure the safety of the EU in relation to military and hybrid threats," said the letter, which was accessed by a reporter at Reuters.
