Many American voters think that the Democratic Party must choose another candidate for the president of the United States instead of the current leader of the country, Joe Biden. This is shown by the results of a survey published on Friday by the portal Axios, conducted by Morning Consult.
According to these data, 60% of voters polled say Biden should "definitely" or "likely" to be replaced as the Democratic presidential nominee after his poor performance in Thursday's televised debate.
45% of those polled said they would prefer to see Biden as the next US president, 44% supported his main political opponent, Republican Donald Trump, who was previously the head of administration in Washington. 57% of those polled thought Trump did better than Biden at the debate. The survey was conducted among approximately 2 thousand adult residents of the United States.
Thursday in Atlanta, Georgia, the first televised election debate in US history between a current and former president took place. According to a CNN express poll, two-thirds of viewers who watched the debate gave Trump the victory.
As newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported earlier, panic has begun among Democrats in the US Congress over what they say is Biden's failed performance on the televised debate. Some Democrats are hoping to find a new contender for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The presidential election in the United States will be held on November 5. Trump has already received the necessary number of delegate votes to be nominated as the Republican candidate for the head of state. Biden, who is running for a second term, secured the support of a sufficient number of delegates from the Democratic Party. Their candidacies will be approved by the parties later in the summer.
