At the upcoming summit in Washington The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will discuss with South Korea ways to build practical cooperation related to Ukraine, defense and new technologies, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced, reports Yonphar.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said he has invited the leaders of South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand to the NATO summit for the third consecutive year to expand the security alliance's partnership with countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

"South Korea is a highly valued partner," Stoltenberg emphasized at a press conference before the summit at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

"President Yoon Seok Yeol attended the meeting. I think it reflects how we have deepened and strengthened our partnership".

Stoltenberg has emphasized the importance of working with Indo-Pacific partners at a time when Russia continues its war in Ukraine with the help of North Korea, Iran and China.

"Iran and North Korea are fueling Russia's war with drones and missiles. China supports Russia's military economy and provides microelectronics and other dual-use goods for Russia's war effort," he said.

"The closer the authoritarian players get, the more important it is to work closely with our friends in the Indo-Pacific region."

At the upcoming summit, Stoltenberg has indicated that NATO will build on practical cooperation on "flagship projects" in the field of Ukraine, cyberspace and new technologies and will discuss defense industry cooperation with South Korea.

"The flagship project is partly about the medical education of Ukrainian soldiers," he said. "We are also looking at how we can expand intelligence sharing with South Korea.

During last year's summit in Lithuania, Yoon said South Korea would increase military information sharing with NATO through the Battlefield Information Collection and Use System, which helps alliance members share military secrets and determine next steps based on the information.

Yun will visit Washington on July 10-11 to participate in NATO's summit as a partner country, which will focus on ways to expand cooperation with the security alliance in response to deepening ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.< br />
South Korea said it would consider sending weapons to Ukraine as a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who signed a mutual defense treaty with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during their summit last month.

"We will send a strong message regarding military cooperation between Russia and North Korea and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between NATO allies and Indo-Pacific partners," senior deputy national security adviser Kim Tae said at a briefing on Friday. -hey.
