France condemned the arrest warrant issued today by Russia for the exiled Russian oppositionist Yulia Navalna, describing it as "another step in the authoritarian bias of the Russian regime", reported France Presse, quoted by BTA.
Navalna has promised to take over from her husband, who was the fiercest critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, after his death under unclear circumstances in an Arctic prison in February this year.
"This decision is cynical and outrageous, and the Russian authorities are responsible for the unjustified death of Alexei Navalny in prison on February 16, 2024,", the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"This shows the determination of the Russian regime to prevent Yulia Navalna from taking over Alexei Navalny's fight against corruption and in favor of freedom of expression," the ministry noted, hailing Navalna"'s courage and determination.

On Tuesday, Russia announced that it had issued an arrest warrant for the widow of Alexei Navalny, accused of "participation in an extremist group.
A Moscow court ordered the detention in absentia of the oppositionist who lives abroad.
