Transgender student law angers Musk

Billionaire to move headquarters of SpaceX and X companies from California to Texas

Billionaire Elon Musk said he will move headquarters of companies "SpaceX" and "X" from California to Texas, reported AP, quoted by BTA.

He wrote on the social network "X" that he plans to move "SpaceX" from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas, where the company launches its rockets. "Ex" will be moving from San Francisco to Austin.

Musk is doing this in protest of California's transgender student law that went into effect on Monday.

"About a year ago, I made it clear to Governor Newsom that such laws would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children," Musk wrote.

The text, signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom, aims to protect the rights of transgender students and fight against discrimination. It prohibits school personnel from disclosing information about students' sexual orientation or gender self-identification without the express consent of the individual, notes AFP.

"Tesla", where Musk is CEO, moved its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Austin in 2021. Musk also said he moved from California to live in Texas, where there is no state income tax.
