Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment on Donald Trump's remarks that must pay the United States for its defense, as it receives nothing in return, Reuters reported, as quoted by BTA.
"During the US presidential election, the State Department does not comment on candidate statements," it said in a brief statement released today.
Trump made his remarks on Taiwan yesterday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he will be formally nominated as its candidate for the United States presidential election in November.
China considers the democratic self-governing island its breakaway territory.
