The Sky News Morning Show was not broadcast on Friday morning, replaced by archive footage.

Downdetector, the website that monitors outages, reported sudden spikes in problems with websites, including Microsoft apps, bank websites and airline apps.

On Ryanair's website, the company urged passengers to arrive at airports three hours early, blaming a “third-party IT issue that is beyond Ryanair's control and affects all airlines operating on the network”.

Online users are reporting problems as far away as Australia, New Zealand, India and Japan, with the UK likely to be hit hard, as during Friday's rush hour.

Troy Hunt, a cybersecurity researcher, said in a post on X that “something super weird is going on right now” with people around the world complaining that their Windows computers suddenly show the “blue screen of death” and enter recovery mode.

Cybersecurity engineers have identified a problem with Crowdstrike, a piece of antivirus software that appears to cause computers to crash.

Senad Arun, founder of cyber research company Imperum, described the incident as “The Doomsday of the Mob”.

In a post on their website, Crowdstrike said they were aware of reports of Windows crashes related to the Falcon sensor.“
