Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz sent a letter to his French counterpart Stéphane Sejourn, warning him of an Iran-backed plot to attack the Israeli delegation at the Paris Olympics, reports the Times of Israel, as quoted by Focus.
"There are those who seek to undermine the festive nature of this joyful event. We currently have assessments regarding the potential threat posed by Iranian terrorist associates and other terrorist organizations intending to attack members of the Israeli delegation and Israeli tourists during the Olympics,” Katz wrote in the letter.
The Israeli minister thanked the French officials for "unprecedented security measures” for the defense of Israelis, as well as for rejecting calls from the French government to exclude the country from the Games.
The 88 Israeli athletes in Paris are under 24-hour guard by French security services as well as Shin Bet officials.
