North Korean hackers have conducted a global cyber espionage operation in an attempt to steal classified military information, to be used for Pyongyang's nuclear program, said a joint statement today by the United States, Britain and South Korea, quoted by Reuters, quoted by BTA.
The hackers called “Anadriel“ or APT45 by cyber experts, have attacked and penetrated the computer systems of a wide range of defense and engineering-related companies, including manufacturers of tanks, submarines, warships, fighter jets and missile and radar systems, the three countries said.
„Agencies believe the group remains a persistent threat to various industry sectors around the world, including but not limited to entities in the three countries as well as Japan and India,” the joint statement said.
The document was co-authored by the FBI and the US National Security Agency, the UK's National Cyber Security Center and South Korea's National Intelligence Service.
"The global cyber espionage operation we uncovered today shows how far North Korean-sponsored players are willing to go in the name of its military and nuclear programs,” said Paul Chichester of Britain's National Cyber Security Centre.
North Korea has long used secret hacking teams to steal sensitive military information, Reuters notes.
