< strong>Turkey may open its border with neighboring Armenia in case of normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said to the pro-government Sabah, quoted by BTA.
A negotiation process is currently underway between Azerbaijan and Armenia. If the normalization process ends positively, we will be able to open the border, Fidan said.
On July 30, the special envoys of Turkey and Armenia, Serdar Kulac and Ruben Rubinyan, held a meeting on the border of the two countries, confirming their intention to continue the process of normalization of bilateral relations without preconditions.
In recent times, efforts have been made to normalize relations between Ankara and Yerevan. On January 14, 2022, the first meeting of the special representatives for the dialogue between Turkey and Armenia, Serdar Kulac and Ruben Rubinyan, took place in Moscow.
Despite the common border, Armenia and Turkey do not have diplomatic relations. In 2009, in Zurich, the foreign ministers of the two countries signed protocols on the establishment of diplomatic relations and on the principles of their relations, but these documents were not ratified by either side.
