A Virginia man has been charged with of online threats of violence against US Vice President Kamala Harris days after she launched her US presidential campaign, reports "Reuters".
Frank Carrillo was charged Friday in federal court in Virginia with threatening the vice president after he posted a series of messages targeting Harris on the social media site GETTR, according to court records.
Harris is the Democratic candidate facing former Republican President Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 presidential election.
"Kamala Harris should be burned alive, I will do it myself if no one else will,'' one post said, cited in court documents. Another says Harris will "regret ever trying to be president.
The announcements were made on July 27, six days after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed Harris to take his place as the Democratic nominee.
The account also posted messages targeting Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
FBI agents seized a rifle and a handgun during a search of Carrillo's home, according to court documents.
Carillo is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.
U.S. Department of Justice officials are concerned about what they called a spike in threats against government officials in the United States.
Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally last month. The authorities have not indicated a motive for the shooting.
