Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah" congratulated Yahya Sinwar on his election as the new leader of the radical Palestinian movement "Hamas", reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"Hezbollah", which like "Hamas" is supported by Iran, also stated that this election had "confirmed that the assassinations of leaders and representatives carried out by the enemy (Israel - note ed.) did not achieve their goal,", the agency added.
Sinowar succeeded Ismail Hania as head of the entire organization, who was killed last week in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said last night on the social platform "X" that the new leader of "Hamas" Sinuar should be "eliminated rapidly".
Sinouar was and remains the man on whom the conclusion of a truce in the Gaza Strip depends, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
"Negotiations for the release of the hostages in Gaza are in their final phase, it is critical that the parties involved work to close the deal as quickly as possible," Blinken said after meeting last night with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin with their Australian counterparts in Annapolis, Maryland. Blinken and Austin spoke with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and the country's Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles at the US Naval Academy complex.
"We have contacted Israel and Iran directly on the issue that no one should raise tensions in the Middle East. Everyone in the region must understand that further attacks will only deepen the conflict, instability and insecurity for everyone," said the first American diplomat.
Blinken added that Washington is following the situation in Bangladesh very closely, and any decision taken by the country's interim government must respect the principles of democracy.
