A senior Hamas commander in charge of security in the Ain al-Helueh Palestinian refugee camp was killed in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon on Monday, AFP and Reuters reported, citing Palestinian Islamist movement and Lebanese security officials.
"An Israeli strike targeted a senior Hamas security official from the "Ain al-Helueh" camp while he was in his car in the city of Saida, near the camp," one of the sources quoted said.
An AFP correspondent saw rescuers pulling a charred body from a car as soldiers cordoned off the area south of Saida, near the largest of Lebanon's 12 official Palestinian refugee camps.
Lebanese state news agency NNA identified the man killed as Samer al-Hajj, whom it described as a Hamas commander. Two civilians were wounded in the attack, which was carried out by an Israeli drone, the statement said.
