Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke today in Beijing with the new Vietnamese leader To Lam, Reuters reported, referring to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, quoted by BTA.
This is the first visit abroad of the new Vietnamese leader since he took office.
The meeting is an indication of the close ties between Vietnam and China, which have well-developed economic and trade relations, notes Reuters.
China said last week that Lam's choice to visit China "fully reflects the great importance he attaches to the development of relations between the two parties and the two countries". Both Vietnam and China are ruled by communist parties.
Lam arrived in southern China's Guangzhou province yesterday for a three-day visit that included meetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and other senior Chinese officials.
In Guangzhou, To Lam visited places where former Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh carried out revolutionary activities.
Last December, China and Vietnam signed more than ten agreements when Xi Jinping visited Vietnam.
The agreements, the details of which were not announced, covered a variety of areas, including cooperation in rail transport, development and investment.
China and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1950, and in 2008 agreed on a comprehensive strategic partnership.
