French Socialists and Greens will not take part in further negotiations with President Emmanuel Macron to find a way out of the country's political deadlock. Their leaders today called on their followers to go out to peaceful protests, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Macron yesterday dismissed the possibility of a potential left-wing government, saying it would be immediately ousted by a majority of MPs from other political forces. Instead, he announced a new round of negotiations with party leaders for today.

Reuters notes that the president is back to square one, facing a volatile parliament where both the left and his centrist bloc and the far-right “National Assembly” have approximately the same number of deputies.

„These elections were stolen from us”, said the head of the party “Ecologists” Marin Tondelier on local radio. “We will not continue these bogus consultations with a president who is not listening anyway and is obsessed with maintaining control. He's not looking for a solution, he's trying to prevent it," she added.

Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure said he would not take part in what he described as a “parody of democracy” after the prospect of a left-led government was ruled out.

Participating in the left-wing coalition “New People's Front” (NNF) party “Rebellious France” called for a mass protest against Macron on September 7.

Leaders of the NNF, which won the most seats in parliament after the last election, have repeatedly said that France's next prime minister should come from their ranks, but Macron has ignored their calls.
