Heavy rain and flooding caused chaos in the largest Turkish city of Istanbul today, reports “Hurriet Daily News“, quoted by BTA.
The northern parts of the county were particularly affected by the atmospheric phenomena.
The Istanbul Municipal Disaster Coordination Center and the General Meteorological Directorate have issued a “yellow code” with a warning that the weather, while not unusual, poses potential risks.
Already in the morning, streets in some areas of the city were flooded, and the floods spread later in the day.
One of Istanbul's popular landmarks, the “Egyptian Market”, was flooded.
Water also covered Taksim Square, as well as the main street "Istiklal".
According to meteorologists, the risk of dangerous weather in Istanbul has already passed, but a “yellow code” is in force for another 10 counties in the Aegean and Mediterranean region.
