The Italian candidate for European Commissioner, Raffaele Fito, will receive the post of Vice-President of the European Commission. This is reported by the German edition "Welt", quoted by France Press and ANSA. Italy announced Fito's nomination on Friday. He is a representative of the governing party "Italian Brothers" of George Meloni, quoted by BTA.

The Italian Prime Minister has always said that she wants an important post in the future EC for the Italian European Commissioner. According to the German publication, Ursula von der Leyen will entrust Fito with the post of vice president in charge of economic affairs and post-pandemic economic recovery.

Another vice-president will be the French candidate Thierry Britton, who will be responsible for industry and strategic autonomy. Until now, Breton was responsible for the internal market.

Fito is a former MEP and was co-chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament. He is considered a staunch supporter of Meloni. Before becoming a member of her party, he was a member of "Forza Italia".

According to "Welt", von der Leyen will nominate Valdis Dombrovskis from Latvia and Teresa Ribera Rodríguez from Spain as vice presidents of the EC. Dombrovskis will be entrusted with the portfolio of expansion and reconstruction of Ukraine, while Ribera will be entrusted with the portfolio of transition.

The new European Commissioner for Energy will be the Czech Minister of Industry, Josef Sikela.

It is already known that the former Prime Minister of Estonia Kaia Kalas is the EU's number one diplomat for the next five years.

Two EU commissioners will work directly with Von der Leyen, namely Slovak Maros Ševčović, who will be responsible for red tape reduction and inter-institutional issues, and Polish Piotr Serafin, who will be responsible for budgetary issues, says "Welt" .

Especially to Fito, in his capacity as vice-president in charge of economy and post-pandemic recovery, work on the supervision of the European fund for post-pandemic recovery of the economy will also be entrusted, notes ANSA. Fito is currently in charge of the Italian plan for the sustainability and development of the economy, which receives funds precisely from this European fund.

Von der Leyen was re-elected head of the EC in July, but then Meloni's party did not support her.
