Argentina intends to press for an arrest warrant for Maduro and other members of his government by sending a formal request to the court in The Hague on Monday, the Argentine ministry said.

Maduro, in power since 2013, secured a third term in elections this year, the results of which were contested by the Venezuelan opposition.

The Venezuelan leader was declared the winner of the election, but the government did not release election records as proof of the result. The opposition claims that the winner is its candidate, 75-year-old Edmundo Gonzalez.

After the elections, there were anti-government protests, to which the police responded firmly. NGOs say 24 people have died in such demonstrations so far.
