Pentagon chief: Long-range strikes on Russia is only one solution, it cannot solve the war - 1

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin believes that all means, including long-range missiles, are not decisive for a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. He stated this at a press conference at the end of the meeting of the contact group "Rammstein" on Friday, September 6, writes "European Justice".

Austin again recalls his words that "there is no universal remedy which is in itself decisive" in Russia's war against Ukraine, but the US approach is to integrate different means to achieve the best result.

"We will continue to do everything we can to make sure they (the Ukrainians) have everything they need to succeed and create the right dynamics on the battlefield, maybe create some capabilities and help the Ukraine should better protect its territory", he notes.

In response to a follow-up question that recalled Ukraine's argument about the need to direct Russian planes striking Ukrainian cities to airfields, the Pentagon chief indicated that Russia had already moved the planes out of ATACMS operations.

"Ukraine has its own, powerful enough means to strike targets that are far beyond the reach of ATACMS or even Storm Shadow,", he recalled, pointing to unmanned aerial vehicles as an example.

This year, for the first time, the US allowed Ukraine to use the weapons transferred to it for strikes in the Russian border areas, from which attacks are carried out on Ukrainian cities.

At the same time, Kiev insists that the authorization also covers targets deep inside Russian territory, specifically airfields that are based on fighter jets carrying long-range missiles that Ukraine has so far failed to hit.

The Pentagon also said the previous day that the US had not changed its policy to limit the use of its weapons for strikes deep inside Russian territory.
