An important bridge in the eastern German city of Dresden partially collapsed into the river Elbe early this morning, reports DPA, quoted by BTA.
The pedestrian and bicycle path, as well as the tram tracks of the Carola Bridge – one of Dresden's thoroughfares – were affected by the collapse, according to the situation center.
The bridge, which the fire service says is about 100 meters long, collapsed around 3am. According to initial information, no one was injured.
The cause of the accident is still unclear. A wide area was cordoned off and firefighters urged the public to avoid the area and not obstruct emergency services.
