Russian drones strike Konotop: Multiple damage and casualties - 1

Russian drones have caused multiple damage to the energy infrastructure of the northern Ukrainian city of Konotop and at least 14 people were injured, Reuters reported, citing representatives of the local government, quoted by BTA.

"At 08:00, 14 civilians sought medical help. Seven residential buildings, one private residential building, a medical and educational facility, three cars, a garage cooperative, a store and a bank were damaged," the prosecutor's office reported, quoted by Ukrinform.

Emergency personnel are working to restore power to the city. Local officials said there were 10 explosions during the attack, and Mayor Artyom Semenikhin said the power system was in critical condition.

"Workers are currently doing everything they can to restore power to the hospital and the water supply system," he declared early in the morning. He added that hospitals continue to work.

Konotop is located in the Sumy region, which has been subjected to increased Russian attacks in recent weeks.

Last month, Ukraine used Sumy as a springboard for a surprise incursion into Russia across the border in an attempt to gain a battlefield advantage as Russian forces advance in eastern Ukraine.

After initially making rapid progress, Kiev's advance in Russia's Kursk region appears to have stalled, and yesterday a senior Russian commander said his forces had regained control of about 10 towns in a counterattack.

Reuters cannot independently verify the development of the situation on the battlefield.

The Konotop strike was part of a larger Russian attack that used 64 drones, the air force said. 44 of them were shot down over nine different districts, they added.

The Russian drone attack also caused a fire in a furniture warehouse, which emergency services are still trying to put out, Governor Sergiy Tyurin said.

The governor of the northern Chernihiv region said that over the past 24 hours Russia had stepped up its attacks there, damaging the region's infrastructure, but gave no further details.
