North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son- Huey traveled to Russia to participate in the fourth Eurasian Women's Forum and the BRICS Women's Forum in St. Petersburg, Moscow's embassy in the DPRK said, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.
"Russian Ambassador Alexander Ivanovich Matsegora sent Minister Choe to Pyongyang International Airport", the diplomatic mission said on the social network VKontakte.
The embassy added that the minister will deliver speeches and participate in discussions at the forum, which will be held from September 18 to 20.
Valentina Matviyenko, chairman of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, announced in June that delegations from almost a hundred countries were expected at the event.
"Our aspiration is to ensure record international participation for the entire history of the forum," she said in June, according to a transcript posted on the Council's website.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also attended previous editions of the forum, but so far there is no notification from the Kremlin about his planned participation in this year's event.
The rapprochement in bilateral ties between Russia and North Korea reached a new high this year after, during a visit to Pyongyang, Putin struck an agreement with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un that included a promise of mutual military aid in the event of an attack on either. countries.
The US and its allies accuse North Korea of aiding Russia by supplying arms to its war in Ukraine in exchange for economic and military aid.
