Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today condemned the attempted assassination of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, which the FBI called an apparent accident, and stressed that political violence has no place in any part of the world. reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.

„I am glad that Donald Trump is safe and unharmed. I wish him and his family all the best, Zelensky wrote on the X social network.

The president also noted that it was good that the assassination suspect was apprehended quickly. However, Zelensky did not comment on the detainees' connection with Ukraine, although several media outlets called him a supporter of Kiev in the conflict with Russia, according to AFP.

Ryan Wesley Raut, the suspect, has no ties to the Ukrainian government, according to a senior Ukrainian official. “He did not serve here and has no ties to state structures, that is for sure”, assured the official on condition of anonymity.

Raut, who was interviewed by AFP in 2022 in Kiev, where he was traveling to show support for the Ukrainian people, “entered Ukraine as an ordinary person like many others,” the official added.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, made up of international volunteers who fight for Ukraine, told AFP that the American suspect was never part of its ranks. “Ryan Routh has never served in the Foreign Legion and has no connection to the unit. "The rumors spread in some media are not true," the Legion said on social networks.

Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election in November could affect the situation in Kiev, which relies heavily on US military aid to fight the Russian invasion that began in February 2022. Trump aides have already hinted that if he won, US aid could be used as a means of pressuring Kiev to make territorial concessions to Moscow, notes AFP.
