Kremlin said today, that the Ukrainian connection of the suspect in the attempt to assassinate former US President Donald Trump highlights that “playing with fire” has its consequences, reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, commented that US intelligence services should address the question of the assassination attempt, which the FBI described as obvious. “It is not for us to think about this, but for the American intelligence services. In any case, playing with fire has its consequences,” Peskov said, which seems to be a clear allusion to US support for Ukraine, Reuters points out.

Three American media - CNN and "Fox News" and the "New York Times" - cited law enforcement sources who identified the suspect as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, who recently moved to Hawaii.

Raut's social media profiles show that he was a passionate supporter of Ukraine. “The New York Times” reported interviewing Raut last year for an article about American volunteers who wanted to fight for Ukraine.

Raut told the newspaper that he traveled to Ukraine and spent several months there in 2022, and tried to recruit Afghan soldiers who had fled the Taliban regime to join Ukrainian forces.
