"We will no longer tolerate any interference. The EU needs to deal with its problems," he added, posting a photo of the meeting.

On Sunday, Borrell told Spain's Telecinco television that more than 2,000 people had been arbitrarily detained since the elections in Venezuela, the opposition leader had to flee, and political parties were subject to thousands of restrictions on their activities.

"What do you call all this? Of course, we are talking about a dictatorial regime," Borel stressed.

"Venezuela held elections, but it was not a democracy before, and much less so after them,", he added.

Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said today that a fourth American has been detained in Caracas, accused of plotting to destabilize President Nicolas Maduro. He has photographed electrical, petroleum and military objects.

"Make sure he is part of the conspiracy against Venezuela," Cabello added.
