Israeli jets and artillery hit multiple targets in southern Lebanon Lebanon tonight, the Israeli military said, amid rising tensions after a series of explosions on communications devices belonging to members of the Lebanese armed movement Hezbollah, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

The military said the airstrikes hit targets of "Hezbollah" in the villages of Shihin, Taybeh, Blida, Mays ej Jabal, Aitaroun and Kfarkela in southern Lebanon, as well as a weapons depot of the pro-Iranian Shiite group in the area of the town of Khiyam.

Israeli media reported that several Israeli citizens were injured when anti-tank rockets were fired from Lebanese territory, but there is no official confirmation at this time.

The latest Israeli strikes followed a period of sudden escalation in tensions over the escalating conflict along the border with southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces have been exchanging fire with Iran-backed Hezbollah for months.

Earlier this week, dozens of people were killed and thousands were injured in attacks targeting communications devices used by members of Hezbollah. Israel has not commented directly on the attacks, which multiple security sources say were carried out by Israel's Mossad foreign intelligence service, Reuters notes.
