The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia stated today that the attack on the Lebanese group "Hezbollah" and others with the help of exploding pagers is an act of hybrid war against Lebanon, in which thousands of innocent people have been injured, reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"We consider what happened to be another act of hybrid war against Lebanon, in which thousands of innocent people were injured," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. "It appears that the organizers of this high-tech attack are deliberately trying to ignite a large-scale armed confrontation to provoke a full-scale war in the Middle East," she added.
A senior source in the Lebanese security forces told Reuters that the Israeli intelligence agency "Mossad" planted explosives in 5,000 pagers imported by "Hezbollah" months before yesterday's explosions.
Thousands of pagers exploded across the country, killing nine people and injuring nearly 3,000 people, including militants from the group and Iran's ambassador to Beirut.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that the attack could spark a wider regional conflict and said the perpetrators of the attack must be identified.
