During an event in Kiev, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski proposed placing Crimea under a UN mandate with the aim of holding a referendum on its status in 20 years, reports the publication "Strana.ua", quoted by Focus.
“Crimea is symbolically important for Russia and especially for Putin, but strategically important for Ukraine. I don't see how an agreement can be reached without the demilitarization of Crimea. We can place it under a UN mandate with the aim of organizing a fair referendum, after checking the legal residents, and postpone this for 20 years“, Sikorski suggested.
A few days earlier, he held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Polish portal Onet reports that the atmosphere during the conversation was “extremely tense, almost to the point of a quarrel“. Zelensky said that Warsaw should increase the supply of military equipment to Ukraine and deal with the missiles and drones over the country. Sikorsky replied that this was impossible without a NATO decision.
