Trump-backed North Carolina gubernatorial candidate caught in scandalous posts - 1

Mark Robinson, Republican candidate for North Carolina governor , one of the most contested states in the upcoming US presidential election, has ruled out dropping out of the race. This happened after CNN revealed his controversial messages about Nazism and slavery, which were published on a pornographic website in 2010, AFP reported, citing BTA.

Robinson, who is seeking to become the state's first black governor with the support of Donald Trump, has strongly denied authoring the pseudonymous messages revealed by CNN.

In a video message, he condemned the "biting tabloid lies" and declared: "We remain in the race".

Robinson, currently the lieutenant governor of North Carolina, has already caused controversy with comments in which he denied the Holocaust, praised Hitler and criticized Martin Luther King.

The author of the messages, published according to CNN between 2008 and 2012, claimed to be a "black Nazi" and advocated the restoration of slavery.

When asked about CNN's claims, Donald Trump's campaign spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt said only that the former president is confident of winning North Carolina over his opponent, Democrat Kamala Harris.
