Israeli Permanent Representative to the United Nations Danny Danon told the organization's Security Council that Israel does not rule out the possibility to carry out new strikes on targets of the Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah", reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
"We will not allow "Hezbollah" to continue his provocations. Its actions are in violation of international law and Israel will defend itself," said the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations in New York.
"Israel does not seek to expand the conflict in the region. However, we will do everything necessary to return our citizens living in northern Israel to their homes," Danon also said, quoted by Reuters.
At the same time, Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, called on all countries with influence over Israel and Hezbollah to "use it now" to prevent an escalation of violence in the Middle East. She noted that "an escalation of the conflict could exceed the dimensions of the devastation of the region and the suffering of the people" in it, observed so far, informs Reuters.
"No one in this world is safe from now on", the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Abdallah Bou Habib said in turn to the UN Security Council.
"I am here to call on you to clearly and categorically condemn the Israeli terrorist attacks," the minister said.
During an Israeli airstrike in the Lebanese capital Beirut yesterday, the top commander of "Hezbollah" Ibrahim Akil. The total number of victims of the attack is at least 14 people.
