Two small children - a brother and a sister, died after the building in which their family lived near Naples in southern Italy collapsed, reported France Press, quoted by BTA, referring to a message from the rescue service.
The two-story house in the town of Saviano collapsed this morning, authorities said. “The rescuers found the father and newborn child alive, but unfortunately (they also found the bodies of the two children”), they wrote on the “X“ social network.
According to the local media, a 4-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother died.
Rescue dogs were involved in the search under the debris for the children's mother and another woman who was older and lived on another floor of the house, authorities said.
A photo released by rescue teams shows walls that appear to be after an explosion on the second floor of the building and a large hole in the ceiling on the first floor.
According to media reports, the collapse may have been caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder.
