Iran's "Grammy“ Sherwin Hadjipour announced that he was pardoned after receiving a sentence of almost four years in March for producing "music against the system", DPA reported, citing BTA.
"Thanks to the judicial authorities and the people”, 27-year-old Hajipour wrote on Instagram.
Hajipour touched millions of people around the world with his ballad "Baraye“ ("Because“) during the demonstrations sparked in the fall of 2022 by the death of Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the morality police for not wearing a hijab.
He was detained shortly after her release and forced to apologize. Subsequently, the song was awarded a "Grammy". In January, Hajipur released a new critical song for the first time since "Baraye".
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently pardoned around 3,000 prisoners and Hajipour may have been one of them, DPA suggests.
Amini's death in custody in September 2022 sparked the largest protests in the Islamic Republic's history, with mostly young people demonstrating across the country against the government.
