US President Joe Biden recognized the United Arab Emirates for an important US defense partner. This was quoted by Reuters and BTA in a joint statement by the two countries, which also called for support for a cease-fire agreement and the release of the hostages in Gaza.
The statement was made after Biden met with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Washington.
The two leaders "stressed the need to refrain from any unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution and to preserve the historic status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem," said the statement in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At their meeting, Biden and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the conflict in Sudan cannot be resolved through military action. The war in this African country has caused the world's largest displacement crisis, the White House said in a statement.
The two "stated their firm and unwavering position that concrete and urgent action is needed to achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities, a return to the political process and a transition to civilian rule,", the document added.
