German parties want an investigation into the government's actions in the coronavirus pandemic - 1

Two German parties that received strong support in the recent parliamentary elections, called for a parliamentary investigation of the government's actions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

The agency notes that the initiative, which is spearheaded by the "Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance" (ASV), was also supported by the "Alternative for Germany" (AzG).

Although on some issues the two parties are on opposite sides, on others they overlap. The leaders of both the AzG and the ASA have been outspoken critics of the government's bans and restrictions due to the coronavirus at the height of the pandemic.

AzG has called on the main conservative opposition bloc CDU/CSU to back their demand for an investigation into whether the German government's measures against the pandemic have been proportionate, including masking and vaccination rules.

For an investigative committee to be established in the Bundestag, at least a quarter of the 733 members of the lower house of the German parliament must vote "for", which means 184 votes. AzG has 77 deputies, and ASV has only 10, DPA notes.
