The former deputy from the city council of the city of Glazov in Russian Republic of Udmurtia Andrey Edigarev was sentenced to 3 years in prison for "justifying terrorism", NOVA reported.
62-year-old Edigarev received the effective sentence because of his post on social networks, where he commented on the war in Ukraine. Edigarev compared Putin to Hitler, adding that he lives in a fascist state.
He was detained in May 2023 on his way to the store and during the arrest the security forces beat him, hitting him in the face, abdomen and groin.
After the time spent in custody, Edigarev pleaded guilty in court and asked for a reduced sentence, as he suffers from hypertension and atherosclerosis, and he also has a minor daughter.
