US President Joe Biden has invited leaders of more than 50 countries to a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Assistance to Ukraine, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"I will convene a leaders-level meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Assistance to Ukraine next month in Germany to coordinate the efforts of more than 50 countries supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression," Biden said in a statement today.
The news came after the US president announced a new aid package for Kiev worth about $8 billion, including Patriot air defense systems, long-range guided bombs and drones. In addition, Biden will host Ukrainian President Zelensky at the White House in Washington today.
Zelensky immediately thanked the United States and wrote on Telegram that his country would use the weapons in the most effective and transparent way possible. He also expressed gratitude for the support of both Democrats and Republicans. Zelensky praised the program to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets and stressed the importance of the recently imposed new economic sanctions against Russia.
