Russia, with the mediation of Qatar , handed over nine children to their relatives from Ukraine, "BBC" reported, quoted by News.bg.
Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova said the group included eight boys aged 12 to 17 and one 17-year-old girl. Many of the children stayed in Russia with their grandparents.
Ambassador of Qatar Ahmed bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani attended the exchange.
"Representatives of the country participate in the negotiations with the Ukrainian side, accompany children and relatives, cover transport and other expenses. The International Committee of the Red Cross, the regional children's ombudsmen, as well as representatives of the relevant departments and law enforcement bodies are also involved in the work," Lvova-Belova said.
She noted that Qatar, in whose embassy the meeting took place, provides significant assistance in the process of reuniting children with their families.
So far, 80 children from 62 families have been reunited with relatives in Ukraine and third countries, and 13 children from eight families have returned to Russia.
On Wednesday, Ukraine, with the mediation of Qatar, handed over four children to Russia.
