Tensions Escalate on Korean Peninsula: North Korea Prepares to Destroy Border Roads - 1

South Korea said today, that it has found signs that North Korea is preparing to destroy the northern sections of roads connecting the two sides of the peninsula. These roads are no longer in use, but their destruction is linked to rising tensions after Pyongyang claims that South Korean drones have entered North Korean territory, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The South Korean military said it had established preparations to blow up road infrastructure in North Korea, although it was unclear exactly which parts would be destroyed.

The development comes amid North Korean accusations that South Korea has launched drones three times this month to drop propaganda leaflets over Pyongyang. North Korea has threatened a forceful response if these actions continue. Yesterday, North Korea's defense ministry announced that artillery and other army units near the border had been ordered to prepare to open fire. The ministry's spokesman warned that South Korean territory "could turn into piles of ash" after an attack by North Korea.

South Korea refused to confirm whether it had used drones, but warned it would take serious action if the security of its citizens was threatened.

Last week, North Korea said it would permanently block the border with South Korea and build frontline defense structures to counter the "confrontational hysteria" of South Korean and American forces.
