The News for the liquidation of the head of the radical Palestinian movement "Hamas" Yahya Sinuar – the mastermind of the unprecedented attack on Israeli territory on October 7 last year, which led to the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip, provoked the reactions of some world leaders, writes BTA.
The new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte commented succinctly on the news, DPA notes. "I personally will not miss him," said the Dutchman at a press conference at the headquarters of the alliance in the Belgian capital, Brussels. "Every normal person in the world condemns terrorist attacks" from October 7, 2023, noted Rutte, emphasizing that this is the position of all NATO member countries.
French President Emmanuel Macron said the "condolences of the victims' relatives" of the attack by "Hamas" last fall. "Among them there are 48 of our compatriots," Macron said. "Yahia Sinuar was the main culprit behind the terrorist attacks and barbaric acts on October 7. France insists on the release of all hostages still held by "Hamas", the French head of state announced, quoted by Reuters.
The Foreign Minister of France, Jean-Noel Barro, believes that the elimination of the leader of "Hamas" dealt a fatal blow to the Islamist movement. "The region must close a page and start on its path to peace," Barro told El Ce I TV (LCI), adding that only diplomacy can end hostilities.
German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock is of the opinion that "Sinouar was a brutal murderer and terrorist who wanted to destroy Israel and its people". "As the mastermind of the October 7 attacks, he caused thousands of deaths and immeasurable suffering throughout the region. Now "Hamas" must release the hostages and lay down their weapons – the suffering of the people in Gaza must finally end," Berbok pointed out.
Her Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, who is also deputy prime minister in Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government, hopes "that"the leader of "Hamas" is no longer there, to bring about a cease-fire in Gaza". "It appears from all indications that the military leader of "Hamas" was killed, and from this point of view, it can be said that Israel has successfully defended itself against the terrorists of "Hamas", noted Tajani.
"I personally will not mourn the death of a terrorist leader like Sinuar, who was responsible for the October 7 terrorist attack. It is clear to me, as well as to the British Government, that this is the cause of not just the darkest, but the deadliest day for the Israeli people since the Second World War. But at the same time, a conflict has been triggered that has been going on for more than a year, and the casualties among the peaceful Palestinian residents in it are of a dimension that cannot be tolerated," British Defense Minister John Healy said in turn.
