British Intelligence: Redundancies in Russian security services as part of anti-corruption campaign - 1

British Intelligence dedicated its review to the accusations of corruption against Russian officials in the Ministry of Defense and other security services, as well as their subsequent dismissals, as cited by Focus.

The corresponding overview is published on the profile of the social network X of the British Ministry of Defence.

The agency, citing Russian media, noted that on October 7, the prosecutor's office brought additional charges against the former deputy defense minister of the Russian Federation, Timur Ivanov, who was already indicted in April 2024.

The first of these cases concerns the alleged misappropriation of 200 million rubles in the purchase of two vessels for the ferry crossing of the Kerch Strait, which were subsequently damaged during hostilities. The second case is related to the theft of three billion rubles from the "Interkomertz" bank.

Indictments against former Russian defense officials continue in what appears to be part of a larger crackdown on theft by officials.

Russian media also reported that eight officers with the rank of general were fired from various departments, including the Investigative Committee, the Ministry of Emergencies and the Federal Penitentiary Service.

Media in Russia are speculating that these dismissals are related to future corruption charges.

"If this is true, it could be a potential indicator that the fight against corruption is expanding beyond its previous narrow focus on the defense sector,”, the review states.
